Chief Joseph
54” x 34” Spray Paint on Panel with Resin
Chief Joseph succeeded his father as the leader of a band of the Nez Perce tribe. He led his band on a 1,170 mile long fighting retreat during the most tumultuous period in their contemporary history when they were forcibly removed from their ancestral lands. The skill with which Joseph and the Nez Perce fought and the manner in which they conducted themselves in the face of incredible adversity led to widespread admiration among their military adversaries and the American public. Coverage of the war in U.S. newspapers led to widespread recognition of Joseph and he became renowned as a humanitarian and peacemaker.
